April 27, 2007
According to China's Xinhua news, the Tianjin government has signed cooperation agreement with China's MII (Ministry of Information Industry), whereby they will jointly develop China's first WiMAX network in Tianjin. This project, to be led by the MII, will leverage the current Internet resources in Tianjin. Under this tie-up, they will begin a pilot run in TEDA (Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area), with WiMAX services to be available by the end of 2007. The rest of the six districts in Tianjin are expected to be covered by late 2008.
